Calling all southern bells and country folk! (or anyone with an opinion)

Fall weather means lots of soup and chili and yummy warm goodness :) This weekend my hubby HAD to have some bean soup. Now, if you don't already know, my husband is quite the country Kentucky boy- its in his blood and I love that about him :) It also means he has names for things that our Maryland friends just simply don't understand (or believe that people other than Michael actually say). Here was the one for Saturday night..... The question is:

"Bean Soup & cornbread" OR "Soupbeans & cornbread"

This photo is actually of leftovers and the original soup did not include rice- we just added it to make it go a little further on Sunday afternoon :)

Our "soupbeans" was a mixture of blackeyed peas, kidney beans, navy beans, black beans, onion, bacon, ham, celery and carrots plus various seasonings (of course). If you want more details than that... well... good luck, we don't use recipes around here ;p

So weigh in and let us know what you call this meal and maybe even share a recipe ;)

  1. My family is mostly from Tennessee. Bean soup is a mix of beans, Soup beans are pintos. Cornbread is cooked in a cast iron skillet in the oven. I prefer johnnycakes which are fried on top of the stove in a cast iron skillet.
